The “ASSISTED SELFIE”
After about 29 attempts Jorgie finally got sick of it and held my arm where it needed to be;) Sugar Loaf behind me….selfie aced!;)

Arcos da Lapa- These beautiful arches are in a vibrant part of Rio that keep true to Old Rio.

Back at the hostel we celebrated Carlos’s birthday with a poolside BBQ snd some impromptu Salsa dancing;)

NINJAS ARE EVERYWHERE! I couldn’t pass him up;)

To finish up our time in Brazil….perched on a balcony in the beautiful Cosme Velho neighborhood that welcomed us, we sipped on the national drink if Brazil, the Caipirinha (pronounced kie-purr-REEN-yah…that totally threw me off)
We were told that the locals don’t drink them often because they are too strong, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying. They are pretty potent though;)  It’s one that I highly recommend you learn to make. For your tastebuds pleasure…your welcome!

Ingredients:
1 lime, quartered
2 tsp fine sugar
2 ounces cachaca

Preparation:
Place the lime wedges and sugar into an old-fashioned glassMuddle well.Fill the glass with ice cubes.Pour in the cachaca.Stir well
Note: Keep the sugar mixed in the drink by stirring often.

My time in Brazil is up and sad to see it behind me but the last several days were filled with adjustments,  new experiences,  new faces, and understanding just when you get comfortable, it’s time to move on;) Adeus!!

Exploring the beauty of Rio

image

We started the day out with a train ride and small hike up to the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado.

Truly deserving the title as one of the 7 Wonders of the World 2014

Once back at the hostel we decided to head out as a group with new friends made at our hostel to Ipanema Beach for a bloco (carnaval samba street party)

image

Some of us from different parts of the US, Mexico City,  Australia, and England….made for a very fun and rowdy group;)

image

Impanema Beach is so pretty it looks fake;)
PS…in Rio the boys bathing suits are just as small as the girls;)

image

As the night for us came to a close…it kinda felt like home as me and the girls decided to buy food and cook back at the hostel. An unbelievable day and night experiencing the sights and sounds of Rio;)

My Brazilian bus buddy

image

I met this gentleman on the bus going to the beach. He was all too excited to share his stories of his 3 yrs living in the US with me. With his broken English and my infant level of Portuguese…just goes to show you when two people wish to talk…language is rarely an issue;)
